Cataloochee Valley - Home of the Elk and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
 
Cataloochee (pronounced cat-ah-lou-chee) Ski Resort - If you are into winter sports you will
love to snowboard or ski the "Cat". Open earlier and stays later in the season than most of the eastern US Ski Resorts.

  • GSMR  that stands for the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. Step back in time and take a railroad excursion and view some of the most scenic tours of the Great Smoky Mountain.
  • Whitewater Rafing on the Nantahala - There are many places to experience whitewater but did you know that NOC was listed as "One of the Best Outfitters on Earth" by the National Geographic Adventure Magazine. It is right here in your back door when you live or visit the Great Smoky Mountains!
  • Folkmoot - This is the State International Festival hosted in Wester North Carolina. From the colorful parade in downtown Waynesville to the festive dancing at the Stomping Grounds in Maggie Valley, this is a once in a lifetime event.
  • The Blue Ridge Parkway - You can experience scenic stops along the parkway and travel America's favorite unspoiled drive. No bill boards, just winding mountain roads and nature as it was intended.

Bring your suncreen - even skiing the reflection off the white powder will make you think it's summer when it come to chapped lips and sunburn.
Sunglasses are handy in summer and winter! Of course, you can buy both at the ski slope in the winter.
